"I think the price of jeans is nuts!" Rachael exclaims. Gretta says, "Jeans have doubled and tripled in price over the last several years, but now there are new lines on the market to give you that look for so much less."

As a basic weekend jean, Gretta suggests that a $14.98 pair from Sarah Jessica Parker's Bitten line could work just as well as the $249 Simpsons jeans. She explains, "Companies go out of their way to treat denim and it takes many processes, so that's sometimes the driver in the price. The less expensive pair can be made to look that way, but it may just feel a little different."

For a jean that can be worn anywhere -- even work -- Gretta shows Rachael a darker denim look that goes for $34 ... or $495! "In this case," Gretta explains, "the difference is the pigment dying. They put it through a process so that it won't actually fade. So maybe the $34 one might fade, but who cares - it's $34!"

Gretta explains how dressing up your jeans has reached a whole new level. "One of these has gold thread in the jean. It's actually woven in -- it's part of the fiber of the jean and it's very expensive to do." The designer version of these jeans, by Dolce & Gabbana, goes for $650. But for $49.50 at Express, Gretta says you can get a similar shimmering effect. "It's dipped in a little bit of glitter so it gives it that look."
