Roller Derby Girl "Rachael Rayge"
Carrie Curtis is finally living the double life she's dreamed about for years - first grade teacher by day, roller derby girl by night! She explains why fulfilling her dream didn't happen overnight. "The biggest thing that stopped me from doing roller derby before was that I was overweight and out of shape," Carrie says. "I didn't have the stamina to do anything - even walking up the stairs, it made me out of breath."
Carrie explains that the inspiration to turn her life around came from Rachael Ray. "I started watching her and I was fascinated by how easy she made everything look," recalls the 33-year-old. "I started cooking for myself, which allowed me to lose weight and exercise." After shedding 70 pounds, Carrie joined the Houston Derby Girls, and didn't think twice about which nickname to use in the rink. "I named myself 'Rachael Rayge' just because I've been so inspired by her," she says. "She makes me want to get up off the couch and go do something, and just take on the world!'
