Cutting-Edge Laser Treatments for Skin
"Before the scar, my legs were one of my best assets," says Gale, a 62-year-old who switched to tall boots and long skirts after a dog bit her leg four years ago. "I just feel ugly and it just takes away a lot of my femininity," she laments. "I would thank my lucky stars for the chance to have this scar look better."
Rachael introduces her to Dr. Jeanine Downie, a dermatologist who is using cutting-edge lasers to target pigments and zap away scars, age spots and even spider veins. "With at least three or four treatments, I think we can get Gale's skin to look 50 percent better," she says. "We do something called Fraxel® and it's a type of laser, and it's actually helping to smooth out the scar tissue so that your skin on top looks a lot better." After four of the $500 treatments and five injections of a filler to even out the scar, Gale is thrilled: "I think it looks great," she says. "I think it's much more than 50 percent better!"
