Music superstar Sheryl Crow, author of the cookbook, If It Makes You Healthy, admits she wasn't always drawn to the kitchen. "I moved into my house and thought, 'This could be a great place for a gym,'" she jokes. Her attitude changed five years ago after her diagnosis with breast cancer. "Knock on wood, I am five years out," Sheryl tells Rachael. "Part of my recovery was giving myself an opportunity to be proactive in my staying well, and that really was dictated by my getting involved with a nutritionist."

Sheryl learned from Chuck White, a chef who showed her to use ingredients considered to be immune system boosters. "Like cumin and turmeric and cinnamon - so many seasonings that are good for our bodies," she explains, "as well as foods that are really high in antioxidants." Sheryl and Chuck collaborated and published more than 100 of his recipes in the book, and she encourages everyone to find ways to get more nutrients into their diet. "Wherever you have the opportunity to use a colorful vegetable as opposed to just a plain white vegetable like cabbage, purple cabbage as opposed to white cabbage, you’re always getting more nutrients."

The mother of two is getting her young sons excited about healthy foods. Sheryl says she is already getting her 4-year-old into the kitchen. "We made kale chips the other day and he thinks he’s eating a potato chip!" she says. "He doesn’t know that he’s not supposed to like kale." Sheryl also taught him to make his favorite breakfast. "For like the longest time he thought that breakfast came from Starbucks, because all he would eat is a zucchini muffin!" she recalls, "and I’m thinking, 'Well, that’s a vegetable, so I’m going to take it!' So we started making them at home and he thinks he’s at Starbucks!"
