Failing Grades Poster Board – Going Too Far?

ClubRRCindi
Parents fed up with their 15-year-old’s poor grades punished him by forcing him to stand on a busy intersection wearing a poster board displaying his grades. Did they go too far?

My question is did it work? I know how frustrating it can get when you have a child who is capable of making good grades, but is simply to lazy to try to do better. So, did it work?

I was thinking the same thing! :P I would love to know what his next set of grades are.

It's not going to far, the kid still had free will... if he had said "No, I'm not doing it." What could his parents have really done? My parents tried somewhat extreme tactics with me when I was in school. They found out that, unfortunately, they had no true power over me beyond what I allowed due to respect. No one actually does over another person. Power is granted to another not taken. So it was ultimately the kid who decided that he was going to be standing on that street.

Embarrasing your kid is not going to put fire under him to do well......there may be more behind it! You don't know what his home life is like. Don't be so quick to judge. Did you ever get put on a street corner?

I am not agreeing or disagreeing. I am asking did it work? I do realize that we don't have the whole story. Another question I have is, wouldn't it be just as embarrassing for the child to fail that grade and hvae to do it again? Not only would it be a sad situation for the child , but it will also follow that child through life. So, which is worse? A moment or a lifetime?
